Daily sunshine, mild temperatures (allegedly the hottest start to March ever), yet cool nights – that’s how the first 10 days of March have gone. Early spring flowers and daylilies are bursting forth, and one flower after another is blooming. The snowdrops have formed a dense forest, the hellebores are blooming in every color, and spring snowflakes, crocuses, and liverworts are already in bloom. The winter viburnum has blossoms, and the winter jasmine has finally awakened! For two days now, the violets have been fragrant, and bees and bumblebees are busily collecting nectar.
We’ve been busy raking autumn leaves every day – in a race against the bursting plant buds. There’s also a lot of pruning to do. Especially the roses, because they already have plump buds. Twice the car was crammed full of garden bags. The worst is over. Now we just need to thin out a few trees.
